Who we are

South Wind Group is an Australian professional services firm providing governance, strategy and executive advisory services to boards, leadership teams and founders working in complex, mission-driven sectors.

We are a principal-led practice. That means the person you engage is the person who does the work — bringing deep sector knowledge, experienced judgement, and genuine commitment to your organisation's success.

Our clients range from research-focused biotech entities and publicly-funded innovation bodies to high tech manufacturers and developers. What they share is a need for serious, trusted advisory support — not generic consulting.

How we operate

South Wind Group is deliberately sized. We do not seek to scale by hiring generalist staff to service a growing client list. Instead, we maintain a focused portfolio of clients for whom we can be genuinely present — attentive, proactive, and effective.

Where specialist expertise is required beyond our core practice, we draw on a trusted network of advisers — legal, tax, financial, communications — who operate to the same standards we hold ourselves to.

All engagements are scoped carefully, documented formally, and reviewed regularly. We use written services agreements on every engagement, including defined scope, transparent fee structures, and mutual accountability provisions. We believe good governance starts with how you run your own practice.

Our founding principal

Metani Rooms

Metani Rooms (GAICD, BSc, LLB) is a strategic executive with more than 20 years of experience across Australia's biomedical and innovation sectors — most significantly at CSL Limited, where she held senior roles for 15 years, and as Chief Operating Officer at BioCurate Pty Ltd.

Her credentials are unusual in professional advisory: a trained scientist, qualified lawyer (Clayton Utz; in-house roles in Australia and the UK), Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and postgraduate in corporate management. That grounding informs everything — from how she structures an agreement to how she reads a research program's risk landscape.

At CSL she progressed from Business Development and Licensing Director to Head of Global Sourcing and Procurement — delivering US$62m in savings across a US$1b spend portfolio and founding CSL's global Patient Focus Initiative. As Jumar Bioincubator Establishment Lead (2022–2024), she negotiated AU$25m in government funding, managed AU$31.2m in capital and operating expenditure, and built the consortium frameworks that brought CSL, WEHI and the University of Melbourne together as Australia's first biotech incubator co-located with a major biotech. As COO at BioCurate (2024–2026), she led an organisational redesign that doubled the cash runway while reducing costs by 50%.

Metani is currently Executive Officer and Company Secretary of Jumar Bioincubator Limited and Chair of Liro Therapeutics. She speaks regularly at biotech and health innovation forums, and has presented internationally at Eye for Pharma's Patients as Partners Conference in the US and UK.

South Wind Group was established to make this depth of experience available to boards, executives and founders — without the overhead and distance of a large advisory firm

Our values in practice

We say what we think, including when it is inconvenient. Clients engage us for frank, experienced counsel — not for confirmation of what they already believe.

Integrity before agreeableness

Rigour without bureaucracy

We respect the discipline of good governance without letting process become an end in itself. The goal is always the best outcome for the organisation, not a perfect paper trail.

Presence without dependency

We aim to build capability and confidence in the organisations we support — not to create ongoing reliance on external advisers. We are most useful when we are working ourselves out of a role.

Long-term relationships

Our best work is done with clients who trust us enough to involve us early and speak to us candidly. We invest in those relationships.
